Call Time (4.40)
Here we play a simulated conversation over Skype to our test phone, and leave the conversation going until the battery quits. The Razr2 V9 lasted 3 hours and 40 minutes, which is about average. It is slightly worse than the Sprint and Verizon versions, however.
| Cell Phone | Talk Time | Score |
| Razr2 V9 | 3 hours, 40 minutes | 4.40 |
| Sanyo Katana DLX | 5 hours | 6.00 |
| Nokia N75 | 2 hours, 23 minutes | 2.86 |
| Samsung Blast | 4 hours, 3 minutes | 4.86 |
| Helio Fin | 3 hours, 41 minutes | 4.42 |
| Apple iPhone | 7 hours, 4 minutes | 8.48 |
Music Playback (6.32)
To test music playback time, we put a playlist on loop and let the phone run it until its battery gives out. The Razr2 V9 lasted 8 hours and 47 minutes, which is respectable. Many phones last between eight and 10 hours for music playback, with select few running longer. The V9's time should be enough to keep you entertained on an international flight, but you might need to charge it before you call your mom to let her know you've landed safely.
| Cell Phone | Music Playback Time | Score |
| Razr2 V9 | 8 hours, 47 minutes | 6.32 |
| Sanyo Katana DLX | 7 hours, 35 minutes | 5.46 |
| Nokia N75 | 5 hours, 36 minutes | 4.03 |
| Samsung Blast | 9 hours, 37 minutes | 6.92 |
| Helio Fin | 7 hours, 50 minutes | 5.64 |
| Apple iPhone | 10 hours, 46 minutes | 7.75 |
Web Browsing (1.96)
Here we direct the phone to a series of Web pages that constantly redirect to each other. This is the most strenuous activity for phones in terms of battery life. Even so, the Razr2 V9's time of 1 hour and 38 minutes is really, really low. We ran this test multiple times because we were sure something had gone wrong. As it turns out, it was the phone's problem, not ours. If you plan on taking the V9 on the road, be careful about how much time you spend online unless you have a car charger, because it seems that web browsing is the biggest drain on battery life of all.
| Cell Phone | Browsing Time | Score |
| Razr2 V9 | 1 hour, 38 minutes |
1.96 |
| Sanyo Katana DLX | 3 hours, 54 minutes | 4.68 |
| Nokia N75 | 2 hours, 42 minutes | 3.24 |
| Samsung Blast | 4 hours, 23 minutes | 5.26 |
| Helio Fin | 3 hours, 10 minutes | 3.80 |
| Apple iPhone | 5 hours, 13 minutes | 6.26 |
Idle Time unscored
We don't score idle time in the interest of publishing timely reviews. Some phones boast idle times of two weeks or more, and verifying that would mean several trials, and a review that's far from timely. AT&T reports the idle time for the V9 is 12 days.
