Palm Treo 755p Cell Phone Review - Value & Comparisons

Value (4.0)
The Treo 755p is available for $249.99 with a two-year contract from Sprint. This price has come down from its first release a few months ago and makes it a much better value. That said the Treo 755p is still hard to justify at this price point, especially when you consider that the Palm Centro is also available from Sprint for $150 less and gives you almost exactly the same functionality. Still, it's not a terrible value and you do get a powerful and easy to use smart phone with decent battery life for your $250. We've seen worse values out there. The Treo 755p is also available from Verizon, but for significantly more.

Comparisons

Palm Centro
- Shrink the Treo 755p and knock off some battery life and you get the Palm Centro, and it costs $150 less. Unless you absolutely hate the smaller keyboard on the Centro or really need the extra battery life we have to lean towards the Centro in this matchup.

Palm Treo 750
- The Treo 750 is basically the same phone as the Treo 755p except it runs Windows Mobile instead of Palm OS. Some will appreciate the more modern software and increased power that Windows Mobile brings, but just as many want Palm OS's ease of use. Plus the Treo 755p has better battery life. The 750 is less expensive at $200 with a contract, or you can pick up a refurbished model from AT&T for just $100, which is an excellent deal. The 750 has also just been updated to run the newest version of Windows Mobile, which brings even more useful updates and points out the lack of development on Palm OS even more.

BlackBerry Curve 8320
- The Curve is one of the best smart phones we've seen this year. It's almost as easy to use as the Treo 755p and we prefer the form factor. The Curve costs just about the same as the Treo 755p, but you can go out and find refurbished versions for significantly less. The Curve 8320 in particular one ups the Treo 755p with Wi-Fi support, or you can go with AT&T's version the 8310, which has GPS support. This choice is really going to come down to which platform you prefer, though.

T-Mobile Shadow
- The Shadow is a Windows Mobile smartphone that runs the standard version without a touch screen. We liked the Shadow a lot, but even with its custom home screen it's still not as easy to use as Palm OS. The Treo 755p also has better battery life than the Shadow. That being said the Shadow has a nicer form factor and it's also significantly cheaper at $150 with a two-year contract.

Sidekick LX
- The Sidekick LX is easy to use, big and limited. Not a good combination unless its capabilities exactly fit your needs and you don't mind having a phone that draws attention. We're sure that many Sidekick owners want just that. By contrast the Treo 755p is even easier to use, smaller and provides users with much more power and flexibility. We have to lean towards the Treo 755p here, but then again we're not a teenager who wants to impress their mates.
