Palm Looking Into a New Linux Based System

Palm is looking to implement a new operating system based on Linux, which will combine features of the Garnet OS and Linux.

Because of Palm’s licensing rights over Garnet, they can use this code freely in their mobile devices. This includes integrating Garnet partially into another source code, such as Linux.

This merging of the codes affords Palm the opportunity to perform higher-end multi-tasking applications. Running voice and data tasks concurrently on Palm’s Garnet based devices is not possible.

Palm’s open source technology merger should be released later this year.
