Nokia unveils E71 and E66

Nokia today announced two new E-Series devices that have been long expected, the Nokia E71 and Nokia E66. The E71 is the latest generation of Nokia's QWERTY oriented enterprise device while the E66 is a slider phone. We got a chance to take a look at the devices and both are slimmer and slicker looking than they're predecessors, the Nokia E61i and E65 respectively. In particular we were impressed by how small and slim the Nokia E71 was, it measures just 10mm thick.

Our biggest concern with the smaller size was how it would impact battery life. We were surprised to find out that the Nokia E71 sports the same 1500 mAh battery that the E61i did. Considering that Nokia also managed to pack in HSDPA, including a version for the U.S., GPS and a 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera it's even more impressive. The Nokia E66 also has these features and the same battery as its predecessor at 1000 mAh, which considering the trouble people have had with the E65's battery life worries us a bit.

Both devices will be available in the third quarter worldwide. Nokia's E-Series devices are focused on delivering enterprise features, including support for ActiveSync Exchange and Nokia's Intellisync service. They both run Nokia's Symbian Series 60 smart phone interface. You can be sure we'll be trying to pick these devices up for a review when they come out.
