Nokia today made official their latest N-Series smart phone the Nokia N82. The N82 sports a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens and integrated GPS functionality. Until the N82 the only other Nokia phone with a 5 megapixel camera was it's flagship N95. The N82 also supports various Nokia services including its N-Gage gaming platform, music store and Nokia Maps. Nokia has recently made an effort to move beyond handset development and begin offering services that often compete with similar services from carriers.

Nokia's N-Series lineup is targeted at the consumer market and is described by Nokia as "multimedia computers". One of Nokia's points of focus with it's N-Series phones is in camera technology and the N82 continues that tradition. Nokia stated that: "The evolution of camera capabilities in mobile devices has been extremely fast over the past years. With the Nokia N82 we have reached such a superior level in image quality, speed and ease of use that not only does it outperform any other cameraphone on the market, but it's also a very credible alternative for single purpose digital still cameras,". Here at Wirelessinfo.com we've done extensive testing on the cameras found on phones and discovered that even Nokia's high end N95 still falls short of entry level digital cameras.

Nokia's move into the services sector of the mobile space with mapping, music and gaming has created some concern amongst carriers that Nokia seeks to displace the services that are key to their future profitability. Nokia seems to have addressed some of these concerns by offering to partner with carriers, including a recent partnership announced with Vodafone, the largest carrier in Europe. The Nokia N82 will be available immediately in some markets at a list price of 450 euros. US availability was not announced.
