Nokia Tries Again With N-Gage

27th August 2007 - Nokia isn't giving up on the N-Gage, even after two less than successful attempts. They've just announced that gaming company Capcom will be offering a selection of their games on the N-Gage platform in 2008.

The first N-Gage was a dedicated gaming phone that was launched in 2003. It didn't sell well, as it was a less than perfect gaming device and worked poorly as a phone. Nokia then changed N-Gage into a platform in 2005, adding it to several existing phones in their product line. Again it wasn't much of a success; only a handful of games were available for the platform, with the last one being released by Nokia themselves in 2006.

Now, Nokia are trying again; the new N-Gage platform will be released in mid-2007, and will allow games to be downloaded straight to the phone over the cell network, and for multiplayer games. Nokia announced today that games publishers Capcom will be creating games for the new N-Gage platform. The press release didn't mention specific games, but Capcom has created a number of popular games, such as Street Fighter and Resident Evil. So N-Gage will be making a comeback, but it remains to be seen if the third time's the charm for Nokia.
