OS
The N97 runs the S60 5th Edition operating system. We don't know much about this OS yet - the only other Nokia device on the market that uses it is the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and that device has not made it to the US yet. Symbian operating systems have powered many feature phones and smartphones over the years, and we look forward to exploring this latest S60 version on the N97. We will say that the interface did not strike as the most intuitive, but we'll reserve final judgment for the production units with the finalized software installed.

Home Screen
The N97's home screen is different from any other previous N-Series device, featuring widgets that show real time information from the web, such as stock prices and weather, contact shortcuts, and more, and they can be moved around and adjusted to suit your preferences. Additional widgets will be available from Nokia's Ovi service and can be downloaded directly to the N97.

Extensibility
Existing 3rd-party S60 applications will be able to run on the N97. Additionally, Nokia has announced an application store similar to the iPhone App Store (called Ovi Store) so it should be interesting to see what will be available for the N97 as this is rolled out, starting in May.
Browser
We had a brief look at the N97's web browser and it looks like it will provide a great browsing experience, and we look forward to testing out its full capabilities.
