Tethered Modem (7.0)
The N96 can act as a tethered modem via Bluetooth and USB, though the USB modem functionality works on PC's only through the included Nokia PC Suite software. We found it easy to connect to connect to the N96 via Bluetooth on a PC and a Mac to use it as a modem, nor did we encounter any troubles doing this through the Nokia software on the PC via USB.
GPS (8.0)
The N96 has a GPS receiver and also uses cell tower triangulation to find your location even faster. Thankfully, no fee is required to browse using the included maps application, as we often find on some phones that feature carrier-supported navigation services, however you must pay to upgrade the maps application to get true navigation features for walking or driving, which is a little disappointing. You do get a 90-day trial at first, which is nice so you can at least see how it all works, but we wish you didn't have to pay at all for this functionality. Once you activate the trial and/or upgrade, you do get true voice-guided navigation and multiple features often seen on dedicated GPS units.
PTT (0.0)
The N96 does not have push-to-talk capability.
