OS
The N86 runs the Symbian operating system, more specifically the S60 3rd edition with Feature Pack 2. S60 is a well-established smartphone operating system that's mostly easy to use.

Home Screen
The N86's home screen is the Active Standby one we're quite used to from previous N-series devices. You can easily customize what shortcut icons are shown in the top row and we always like the ability to see upcoming appointments at a quick glance.

Extensibility
The S60 operating system is highly-extensible, with literally thousands of 3rd-party applications available to add functionality beyond what the N86 is capable of out of the box.

Browser
The demo unit we manhandled did not have an active SIM card and was not connected to one of the many password-protected WiFi networks available on the showroom floor, so we were unable to see the N86's web browser in action. What we did see of it looked no different than the browser on the N82, and if it's the same, it will be a powerful and feature-filled browser indeed.

Other Software
The N86 comes with Nokia Maps software and it can run N-Gage games - a direct link to the N-Gage store is even included.
