Resolution
The N86 has an 8-megapixel camera that will take images with a resolution of up to 3280 x 2464, matching the recently-released Samsung Memoir.

Interface
The camera interface of the N86 looked, in our short time with it, to be exactly like that of other N-series devices we've seen like the N96 and N82. The live preview takes up the entire screen, with settings options icons arrayed down the side of the screen. We'll have to wait for the final version before saying anything definitive, but we like this approach; it means you can see more of the image, but still control the camera.

No surprises in the N86's camera interface

Zoom
Like the Nokia N82, the N86 has up to 20x digital zoom. Digital zoom is not usually useful since it only serves to crop and enlarge a photo and degrades the quality of the resulting image. However, images from the N86's 8-megapixel sensor will have a lot of pixels to work with, and its digital zoom may not be as bad here as it is for other, lower-spec'd cell phone cameras.

Focus
The N86 has an auto-focus lens, not the fixed focus lens that we see on some cameraphones. As with the Samsung Memoir, we expect no less from a device touted as a premium camera phone.

Flash
The N86 has a dual-LED flash that, according to its spec sheet, is effective up to about 11.5 feet. We generally prefer Xenon flashes; they are brighter and less irritating.

Video
The N86 is capable of recording video, and the spec sheet indicates it can record up to 30 frames per second at VGA (640 x 480) resolution.
