March 7, 2007 – Nokia announced today that the mobile manufacturer plans to realign its device business, marked by moving its device sales division to corporate headquarters in White Plains, New York. “The changes we announced today are designed to align us more closely with our customers in order to drive improved business results in North America,” said Nokia Executive Vice President Robert Andersson of Customer and Market Operations in a company press release today.
As the biggest mobile manufacturer in the world, according to a Reuters article today, Nokia has remained in the number 2 spot in North American handset makers, following Motorola Inc., its chief rival in the market.
“It’s no secret we’ve had our struggles in the U.S. market,” said Nokia representative Laurie Armstrong to Reuters. “This is an example of our commitment to improving our position in the North American market,” she said.
As part this North American realignment, Nokia is relocating device sales representatives from Irving, Texas to White Plains, New York. Mark Louison, current head for North American network business, will take role as President of Nokia Inc. as of April 1. Louison will replace Tim Eckersley who will withdraw from his position in June.
