Nokia E75 Cell Phone First Impressions Review - Imaging

Resolution
The E75 has a 3.2-megapixel camera that will capture images with a resolution of 2048 x 1536. That's somewhat lower than the 8-megapixel models that we are seeing from other manufacturers, but good enough for the occasional snapshot at a business dinner.

Interface
The E75's camera interface is the same uncluttered goodness we've seen on their E-series and N-series devices for a little while now. Access to settings are easy to get to via a strip of icons arrayed along the right and useful information about the current shooting mode, the number of images that can be saved to the remaining memory, and more are all shown without getting in the way of taking pictures.

The E75's camera interface

Zoom
The E75's main camera offers digital zoom up to 8x, and the front-facing camera offers up to 2x zoom for video. Digital zoom usually ends up degrading picture quality since it crops and enlarges the photo without enhancing it in any way. We'd much rather see optical zoom, but this is rare indeed in a cell phone.

Focus
The E75's lens is an auto-focus one. Even though the E75's camera isn't as good as you'd find on the N96 where an auto-focus lens is pretty much required to maximize the potential for good pictures, we still appreciate an auto-focus one over a fixed focus lens any day.

Flash
The E75 has a single LED flash. In our experience, these don't offer a great deal of range or coverage (and aren't as good as the Xenon flashes that some other cell phones offer), but they are better than nothing.

Video
The E75 is capable of recording video with both cameras, albeit at different frame rates - up to 30fps for the main camera, but only 15 fps for the front-facing camera. Although the E75 is a business-oriented device, we appreciate this ability, which is sorely missing from the T-Mobile G1.
