Who's It For
Business User
Business users won't like the Nokia 6555's lack of e-mail and organizational features and will find the limited talk time may leave them with a dead handset when they need it the most. Look elsewhere.
Budget Callers
The Nokia 6555 is a very good choice for budget users who want a solid cell phone. Its feature set is surprisingly full given the low price. No it's not going to be the best handset out there, but it'll do the job for you.
Chatty Teenager
On the one hand Mom and/or Dad will like the price of the Nokia 6555, and its excellent keypad makes it a good choice for text-happy teens. On the other hand, the title of this category is "chatty" teenager, and with its limited talk time you won't be able to chat for too long before the battery runs out on you. Of course Mom and/or Dad might like that, too.
Media Maven
The Nokia 6555 is not a good choice for media mavens. Its music software is OK, but the lack of external controls, almost utter lack of video playback support, poor camera performance, and poor placement of the Micro SD card add up to a frustrating experience for those who want a good media handset. If you're looking for a media handset on a budget we'd recommend the Sony-Ericsson W580i or LG Chocolate over the 6555 at not much more cost.
Conclusion
The Nokia 6555 is a fairly solid low-end handset with a couple of drawbacks that you're going to expect from any phone you can get for free. The question is whether those drawbacks ruin the handset's usefulness, and in the case of the Nokia 6555 the answer is mixed. On the one hand we are very worried about its poor talk time performance; three hours just isn't very long. The poor camera quality is really unsurprising given that we haven't had much luck with Nokia's 2-megapixel camera phones, much less a 1.3-megapixel camera. If all you're going to do is snap a quick photo to send via MMS it'll be fine, but if you have any interest in viewing those photos on anything other than a cell phone screen the Nokia 6555 is going to disappoint.
Those drawbacks aside, the Nokia 6555 does pretty well. The organizer is fairly full-featured for a phone that isn't "smart" and we like how easy it is to use the keypad and controls. In fact, the latter is probably going to attract a lot of people, especially those that like to text a lot. The handset isn't sexy, but it's not overly ugly either, and audio quality is above average. If you can get over the poor talk time and camera the Nokia 6555 is probably going to be a very servicable handset for you.
