Conclusion
We had been anxiously awaiting to get our mitts on the 5800 as Nokia's first touchscreen device and we have to say that it didn't wow us all that much in the end. We were expecting great things from its 3.2-megapixel camera given the performance of other Nokia devices we'd seen, but we were sorely let down by the 5800 in this respect. While its S60 operating system offers a lot of power, extensibility, and flexibility, we found the touch interface to be unintuitive and text entry with the included stylus to be cumbersome and unpleasant. We know the 5800 is capable of a lot and we were particularly pleased by its music playback battery life, but it turned out to be not all that special in the end, with many other devices we've seen offering comparable capabilities that are more attractive and priced more competitively.

Who's It For

Business User
With Microsoft Exchange Server compatibility and full synchronization capability, the 5800 can keep up with the business user. However, as a touchscreen device with no physical keyboard in sight, it may not be ideal for the business user who must pound out long emails constantly while on the go.

Budget Callers
At $399, the 5800 is definitely not for the budget caller. Its only redeeming point for this type of user is that it comes without a 2-year contract attached, so there could be some savings over the long-haul if you can find an inexpensive plan to go with it.

Chatty Teenager
The 5800 posted decent call time battery life for a 3G device, but it wasn't spectacular, so it will have a hard time with the chatty teenager who is on the phone all day.

Media Maven
The 5800 looks very good on paper for the media maven, but the camera will yield some disappointing results. For media consumption, however, the 5800 will be pleasing with its long music playback battery life and large screen for watching videos on the go.
