Nokia 5310 Cell Phone Review - Conclusion

Conclusion
Throughout the entire review process, the Nokia 5310 struck everyone in the office with its tiny size. This was both good and bad - good for exceptional portability, but bad when using the cramped keypad and various small buttons. But we really like dedicated music controls, particularly on phones touted as music-centric devices, and the 5310 does not let us down in this respect. When it comes to playing music, the 5310 does have very good battery life and good software that's easy to navigate and to create playlists on the go. With headphones and a 1GB microSD card in the box, the Nokia 5310 comes well-equipped to be your music buddy, which is more than can be said for many phones these days.

The phone's audio quality is not bad and should pose no issues in general use. The 5310's imaging results were not good despite its 2-megapixel sensor, and you'll only want to capture spur-of-the-moment adventures with it when nothing better is at hand.

When it comes to messaging, we don't like not having a native email client, but texters will be happy with the messaging capabilities that allow you to easily create a text or MMS message at will. Those with large fingers, however, should beware the small keypad that helped the phone earn some of the lowest words-per-minute scores we've ever seen.

At $49.99 for everything you get with the Nokia 5310, there's really not too much to complain about in the end. We think that most people will be happy with what they get in the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic for that price.

Who's It For

Business User
Without a native email application, robust organizer abilities, or document viewing and editing capabilities, the Nokia 5310 is definitely not for business users. The only way we could see this phone as a good fit for a business user if a second non-smartphone is needed for light personal use to supplement a workhorse Blackberry or other smartphone - the tiny and light 5310 would fit the bill very well for a business user in this way.

Budget Callers
At just $49.99 when purchased online, the Nokia 5310 is not a bad buy for those who want a highly-portable phone that can also be a dedicated music player, particularly when considering everything that it comes with.

Chatty Teenager
While the 5310 definitely has the cute factor, it's not the most hip or stylish phone out there, and may not be the most appealing to the style-conscious teenager, though its good call-time battery life may mitigate that a bit. T-Mobile's myFaves feature may be appealing, however, with its easy access to a user's top 5 friends or family right on the home screen for calling or messaging, though it should be noted that this feature is not specific to the Nokia 5310 and is available on other T-Mobile phones.

Media Maven
A media maven will not be thrilled with the Nokia 5310 - with poor still image and video performance, the 5310 leaves a lot to be desired by those who want a cell phone that can take the place of a dedicated camera in a pinch. While it has good music capabilities and comes with a 1GB Micro SD card, its small amount of internal storage and a 1GB card is definitely not enough for music and video lovers who like to carry a lot of their media with them. Throw in the fact that the 5310 won't play many of the common video formats at all, and the 5310 will come out on the bottom of the list for media mavens.
