New iPhone firmware coming, Palm Treo Pro pre-order specials, Samsung recycling program, and more

Apple announced at their "Let's Rock" press event today that a new iPhone firmware update, version 2.1, will be available on Friday, September 12. It's intended to include many bug fixes and address the dropped calls, crashing applications, and poor battery life that many users are experiencing. iPhone owners, get ready to download!



Palm is now offering some pre-order specials for the recently-announced Treo Pro. If you place your order before September 22, you'll get a free international power adapter with your Treo Pro. If you order by September 10, you'll get free shipping. These offers are available only for orders shipped to an address in the continental U.S.

Samsung has announced a recycling program that will kick off on October 1 where your old Samsung cell phone can be safely dismantled and recycled for free. You simply need to prepare your phone per the simple guidelines posted on this page, and fill out the form on the right to print out a postage-paid label. This is the type of thing we'd like to see all cell phone manufacturers offer!

The LG VX9600 has passed through the FCC and is rumored to be a lower-end version of the Dare for Verizon's network.  It will sport a 3" touchscreen, 2-megapixel camera, and Bluetooth. No news on when it will be formally announced or released quite yet.

A new HTC phone sounds like it's on the way, rumored to be a budget-minded model priced below the popular Touch, and will run Windows Mobile 6.1 and the TouchFlo interface.  It will be a quad-band GSM phone with a 2.8-inch touchscreen, but it won't be 3G-capable.
