New DocumentsToGo Edits Office 2007 Files

13th sept 2007 – DataViz has just announced a new version of their popular DocumentsToGo software, which adds the ability to edit files created in Microsoft's Office 2007 suite on cell phones running Windows Mobile. Previous versions had allowed for viewing of these documents, but not editing.

DataViz claims that this new version will also preserve the look and feel of documents, preserving formatting and type styling (such as bold, italics and fonts) so that they look the same on the cell phone screen as they do on the PC screen. Some formatting (such as headers and footers in Word documents, and some graphics) isn't displayed on the cell phone, but a technology called InTact preserves this formatting, so it is still in the document when it is moved over to the PC again. DataViz explains how this prcess works here.

The new version also allows users to create Word, Excel and Powerpoint files from scratch, so you could start writing a document on your cell phone, then forward it to your desktop and continue editing it there. Version 3.0 of DocumentsToGo costs $29.99 and is available now. A 30-day demo version is available.
