Call Time (5.74)
To test how long the battery lasts while on a call we make a phone call using Skype and pipe audio through the connection to simulate conversation. We then time how long it takes for the battery to run out. The Razr2 V9m lasted 4 hours and 47 minutes in our test. This is a good, if unspectacular, time for a cell phone. This performance is better than most of our comparison phones. The Katana DLX did marginally better, and the iPhone did significantly better, but the Razr2 V9m performed well. We were actually somewhat surprised by the Razr2 V9m's performance given that it has a small 770 mAh battery .
| Cell Phone | Talk Time | Score |
| Razr2 V9m | 4 hours 47 min | 5.74 |
| Helio Fin | 3 hours 41 min | 4.42 |
| Sanyo Katana DLX | 5 hours 0 min | 6.00 |
| Razr V3m | 2 hours 41 min | 3.22 |
| Nokia N75 | 2 hours 23 min | 2.86 |
| Apple iPhone | 7 hours 4 min | 8.48 |
Music Playback (6.24)
With many phones supporting music playback and phone manufacturers hoping to replace the iPod in your pocket with cell phone music, playback time has become more important in phones. We were happy to see that the Razr2 V9m put up a good time of 8 hours and 40 minutes in our music playback test, where we play an album looped with the phone closed and volume at maximum. The Razr2 V9m performed better in our music playback test than any of our comparison phones except the iPhone. It lasted almost twice as long as the Razr V3m, a big step up for the Razr line.
| Cell Phone | Music Playback Time | Score |
| Razr2 V9m | 8 hours 40 min | 6.24 |
| Helio Fin | 7 hours 50 min | 5.64 |
| Sanyo Katana DLX | 7 hours 25 min | 5.46 |
| Razr V3m | 4 hours 23 min | 3.16 |
| Nokia N75 | 5 hours 36 min | 4.03 |
| Apple iPhone | 10 hours 46 min | 7.75 |
Web Browsing (3.30)
To test how long a phone lasts while browsing the Web we point the phone's browser at a page that is set to refresh every 10 minutes. We make sure the screen stays on and time how long the phone lasts while browsing. The Razr2 V9m lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes, a disappointing time given how well it performed in our other battery tests. It's not too surprising, however. Two things work against the Razr2 V9m in this test. The first is the relatively small 770 mAh battery, and the second is the use of Sprint's 3G EVDO network. The 3G networks are notorious for being battery hogs, and this result is an example of how greatly it can impact a phone's battery performance. Users should note that heavy use of data like browsing the Web or downloading songs will probably have a seriously negative impact on the Razr2 V9m's battery performance.
| Cell Phone | Browsing Time | Score |
| Razr2 V9m | 2 hours 45 min | 3.30 |
| Helio Fin | 3 hours 10 min | 3.80 |
| Sanyo Katana DLX | 3 hours 54 min | 4.68 |
| Razr V3m | 3 hours 35 min | 4.30 |
| Nokia N75 | 2 hours 42 min | 3.24 |
| Apple iPhone | 5 hours 13 min | 6.26 |
Idle Time unscored
In order to ensure we deliver reviews in a timely manner we do not test idle time. Unfortunately neither Motorola nor Sprint provide any information about expected idle time for the Razr2 V9m, however even the worst phone should give you at least a few days of standby time before the battery is discharged.
