Who’s It For
Business user – The Motorola Razr V3m is probably not a good choice for business users due to the limited email capabilities and the poor battery performance.
Budget callers – Budget callers can probably pick up a handset for free with a 2 year contract, and not give up too much functionality, although it may not be as sexy as a Razr.
Chatty teenager – The Motorola Razr V3m is a solid purchase for chatty teenagers looking for a stylish phone that does the job.
Media maven – A media maven might be able to get a good deal as the price of this phone (with a 2 year contract), plus a headset adaptor, plus a headset, plus a memory card is still going to be less than something like the A900M which is a higher end music device. Still the price difference is not too great (around $30) and the A900M comes with its own headphones.
Conclusion
The latest update to the Motorola Razr V3m lineup has added some functionality but still has many of the drawbacks in terms of usability that Razr’s have always had. Despite the improved megapixels on the camera it fared poorly in our tests and the album software was extremely frustrating to deal with. The added music functionality is welcome, as is integration with the Sprint music store and the presence of an expansion slot. Battery life however was terrible. On our music playback where we usually see the longest performance the Razr did not even last 5 hours. Don’t expect to use it to listen to music on a cross country flight. The Razr V3m does keep the slim styling that has defined the family of phones, but nowadays with so many slim phones on the market this has ceased to be a differentiating feature.
