Who's It For

Business User

Business users might be put off by the odd looks of the Q 9m, but it provides solid functionality. It isn't the best business device out there, but it should suit most  professional users.

Budget Callers

If a budget caller needs a smart phone, they could do a lot worse than the Q 9m. If they don't need a smart phone, then they wouldn't even consider this phone a choice.

Chatty Teenager

Chatty teens won't find the Q 9m is particularly good at texting, and the camera isn't great either. They might like the media player on the home screen, but they'd want it in a better looking package. In terms of smart phones, this one is probably more geared towards chatty teens, but even then it's not saying much.

Media Maven

Media mavens will laugh at the Q 9m's attempt to be a media phone, then look elsewhere. If they need a smart phone, the Q 9m might be an option, but underneath the suit, their inner media maven will weep as they use it.

Conclusion
The Q 9m is a bit of a weird phone. It's like the Joker from Batman, in that it looks like a BlackBerry fell into a Windows Mobile chemical bath and came out as this thing. It doesn't have a very good camera, and it can be incredibly slow at times. Beyond these shortcomings, it's a typical Windows Mobile Standard 6.0 phone. It's also relatively cheap if you compare it to other Windows Mobile offerings like the HTC Tilt or Duo. Really, the Q 9m would be a good deal if only it had some kind of wow factor. Its battery life is nothing spectacular,  it doesn't have GPS or wi-fi capabilities, its keyboard is squishy, and it has an average screen. Its home screen and media player are entirely different entities, which undermines the functionality of the home screen plugin. Also, Verizon interjects "music" into the Q 9m title, but the on-board memory sucks and you'd need to invest in a card as a mandatory cost. Really, if the phone wasn't so cheap we'd simply advise you to ignore it. As it is, though, the handset is relatively cheap and offers Windows Mobile's extensibility. Even considering all its flaws, at $100 it really isn't a bad deal. Again, we're not 100% sure if the mail-in rebate is a limited-time offer, so be sure to ask first before buying.
