Microsoft’s Skymarket, Latest on XPERIA X1, Samsung INNOV8 UK Debut and Much More

Microsoft’s Skymarket to compete with iPhone App store, the Xperia X1 launch date on track, Samsung INNOV8 debuts in UK and more. Today’s round up covers these stories and much more.

According to Sony Ericsson, the Xperia X1 will start shipping in the second half of 2008 in select markets. Sony Ericsson chose to make an announcement after rumors of a delay started cropping up on the net.

"There is absolutely no delay. The product is on track," Sony Ericsson spokeswoman Merran Wrigley said. "We have said it will roll out in Q4 and we are on target to do that."

Sony Ericsson may soon cease to exist. After the company’s dismissal performance this quarter, experts have questioned the fate of Sony’s joint venture with Ericsson.


Asked whether Sony is planning to end its Sony Ericsson joint venture, SE CEO, Howard Stringer told Die Welt: "It's certainly been a difficult year but buying out a partner is never an easy thing.

The iPhone Application store will soon face competition from Microsoft Skymarket. Long Zheng is reporting that Microsoft is developing a Windows Mobile 7 application store, which should debut by next year. His claim is based on a number of job listings posted by Microsoft.



Nokia in a press release announced that Carphone Warehouse would be the exclusive U.K. pre-pay channel to sell the 5310 XpressMusic handset with its Comes With Music service. The handset will include an one-year music download subscription and one will be able to keep the tracks even after the initial 12-month contract.






The Samsung INNOV8, which boasts of a whopping 8-megapixel camera, is now available on Orange UK. Mobile.co.uk is selling it for £30 on an 18-month contract and you also get a Nokia 1650 for free with £10 credit!
