LG Arena First Impressions Review - Software

OS
The Arena runs LG's new 3D S-Class UI that will also appear in other LG phone models this year. The Arena's press release boasts that this UI is fast and intuitive. In our short time with it, we didn't find it to be as smooth as it was hyped to be, nor as intuitive, but we'll reserve final judgment for production models that make it state-side.

The Arena's main menu

Home Screen
The Arena's home screen is actually split into 4 panes to form a cube. Pressing the Home button shows you this cube, and you can use your finger to flick the cube around to the pane that you want. The first pane shows you a traditional icon view of application, the 2nd pane shows widgets that can be customized to your liking, the 3rd shows contacts in rotating strip of thumbnail pictures, and the 4th shows all media in rotating "reels".

Extensibility
No information on the extensibility of the Arena's operating system has been provided yet. However, our guess is that it will be a fairly closed system and 3rd-party developers will have limited to no access to create native applications for it.

Browser
The Arena units on display were not connected to the internet via Wi-Fi or the cellular network, so we were unable to see the browser in action.
