Tethered Modem (0.0)
The Helio Fin can't be used as a tethered modem for your computer out of the box. If you download and install the PC link software from here it will install the necessary drivers to use it as such. Because we don't award points for functionality that isn't included in the box, we do not award points to the Fin here.

GPS (8.5)

We were happy to see that, like the Ocean, the Helio Fin has built in GPS functionality. The GPS functionality on the Fin is integrated with both the Buddy Beacon software, which allows your IM contacts to see where you are, and the Google Maps application. Google Maps provides solid functionality, and in conjunction with GPS allows you to easily get directions and find local businesses. It's an assisted GPS-type device, meaning that a server run by Helio does most of the work. The device just sends the GPS signals it receives to the server, and the server calculates your location. This keeps the cost down, but means the device can't continuously track your location or provide services that require constant tracking, such as voice-guided directions. These are available on many competing products like the Nokia N95 and the BlackBerry 8800, albeit for a monthly fee.
