Email
The Magic has 2 separate email applications - one for the primary GMail account and one for other email accounts you wish to set up, where both POP and IMAP accounts are possible. We didn't like this set-up on the T-Mobile G1 and even the Magic's more svelte appearance won't change that. On the T-Mobile G1, push email was automatic with the GMail account whereas only fetch email is possible with the other accounts you set up, and we'd expect the Magic to act the same. This will make it less capable than the iPhone 3G with its Microsoft Exchange Server compatibility, but better-equipped than the LG Dare that doesn't even have a native email application.
The demo unit we manhandled did not have any email accounts set up on, so we were unable to see the email interface. Given the interface similarities present throughout the rest of the Magic to the T-Mobile G1, we don't expect any surprises.
Instant Messaging
The Magic has a native IM account, and we reckon it will have the same functionality as the one on the T-Mobile G1 with easy set-up options for Google Talk, AIM, Windows Live Messenger, and Yahoo IM accounts.
Text & Multimedia Messaging
The Magic is capable of SMS and MMS messaging.
