Keyboard/Keypad
The Magic's keypad is a virtual one, thanks to a recent version of Android that includes this addition. It operates in both landscape and portrait mode. We typed on it briefly and found it responsive, though it didn't offer the same level of accuracy in guessing what we intended to type as we found on the iPhone 3G. However, tweaks to the predictive text settings could change this.

Controls
While the Magic has a responsive capacitive touchscreen, the trackball can also be used for navigation to quickly scroll through lists and web pages. As with the G1, we have a concern about its durability since it could get gummed up with lint and debris over time.

The home and back buttons are shaped like the Send and End buttons, ones we already wish had more surface area to them. The menu button is slightly larger and offers the same good tactile feedback and travel as the other buttons and it's a little larger, thank goodness.

Display
The Magic's display measures 3.2" diagonally, smaller than the iPhone 3G's and a touch larger than the T-Mobile G1's and the LG Dare's, with a resolution of 320 x 480. It was bright and crisp to our naked eyes. In case you're wondering, there is no multi-touch on the Magic.

Ports & Storage
The Magic is fantastically uncomplicated with only a single port to its name - a mini USB port on the bottom. However, we're still quite irritated that the Magic, like the T-Mobile G1, lacks a standard headphone jack. Without a special adapter, you'll be unable to listen to music and charge the Magic at the same time.

The Magic will have 512MB of flash memory, double what the T-Mobile G1 had. We have no information yet on how much will be available to the user. Regardless, it won't be enough to keep any useful amount of media on the Magic, and the microSD card slot will be your best friend to hold any amount of media.
