12th Nov 07 – HTC is fleshing out their plans to build a line of phones around their Touch form factor with the HTC Touch Cruise, a Quad-band GSM phone that supports the US 3G data frequencies. The HTC Cruise touch has a 2.8-inch LCD screen, but no keypad or keyboard; all of the controls are accessed through the touch screen interface (which uses the TouchFLO system that previous touch models have used) or the small number of control keys below the screen. It runs Windows Mobile 6 Professional, and there are four buttons surrounding the 4-way directional control and center button; a start call and end call buttons, plus a wireless and Internet Explorer buttons.
Also included is a 3 megapixel camera with auto focus and a GPS receiver; HTC claims that the Touch Cruise will support turn-by-turn navigation through the included TomTom software. The HTC Home software also shows a different home screne than most Windows Mobile devices; it can be configured to show weather and other information. 128MB of RAM is included, but more media storage can be added through the micro SD card slot. As well as the US 3G frequencies, support for 802.11 b/g WiFi is included, so you can get a faster connection from a WiFi hotspot when required. HTC claims that the 1350 mAh battery will have a standby time of up to 450 hours and a talk time of up to 7 hours.
HTC has not released any information on US availability, but the support for US 3G frequencies would suggest that they will be pitching it to one of the US GSM networks (AT&T or T-Mobile).
