March 18, 2007 - Have no time to email? Or are just too plain lazy to type? HP has just launched their first smartphone device, the iPAQ 500 Voice Messenger that allows users to reply to email with voice commands, eliminating the need for time-consuming typed replies. Pricing for the iPAQ has not been announced but will be available this spring.

Geared for business professionals, the HP iPAQ 500 acts as a handheld PC, according to the HP website. “Busy professionals are constantly flooded with email and looking for ways to quickly and easily manage it and move on with their day,” said HP vice president Dave Rothschild of the Handheld Business Unit, Personal Systems Group, in a company press release. “Our HP iPAQ Voice Messenger smartphone gives mobile users an easy way to manage all types of communications and stay focused on their business.”

Equipped with more than 20 voice commands, the HP iPAQ features Voice Commander to have emails read to the user and reply to emails by dictation in Voice Reply. The HP smartphone comes complete with a Setup Assistant and has installed software of Outlook, MSN Messenger, Bluetooth Manager, and Solitaire, among other functions.

Measuring 4.21 x 1.91 x 0.64 inches and weighing 3.6 ounces, the HP device promises to be “small in size, big on features,” according to the website. The HP iPAQ 500 has a 2.0-inch TFT color screen and 12-button keypad. It has fully integrated wi-fi and Bluetooth capabilities and accepts micro SD memory. The HP iPAQ operates on the recently released version 6 of the Windows Mobile operating  system.
