Sprint Nextel announced that they have been given more time by the FCC to vacate some bits of the 800-megahertz spectrum that are near public safety agency networks. The deadline has been extended to July 1, 2009.

Says Sprint:
"We look forward to continuing to work with the public safety community and the FCC to ensure that reconfiguration is completed as quickly as possible without disruption to all involved."
