BlackBerry Launches New Small Business Software

5th Nov 07 – BlackBerry devices are beloved of big businesses everywhere because they integrate easily with existing email systems and make offering mobile email to employees easy. Now, BlackBerry makers Research in Motion are looking to get smaller businesses on board with BlackBerry Professional Software, a simplified version of their enterprise software for businesses with up to 30 employees.

The new BlackBerry Professional Software has most of the features of their enterprise system , including allowing the administrator to set browsing, calling and use limits on devices, as well as remotely backing up data on devices so the data can be recovered if a user loses or breaks a device. Devices can also be remotely locked and wiped if they are lost, so a lost device can be blocked from fraudulent use and wiped clean of any confidential data.

The system also provides secure, encrypted data transport, so confidential information cannot be intercepted between the server and the device, even if it is sent over an insecure network such as a public WiFi hotspot. The email services work with exchange and Lotus Domino servers, but not with standard POP3 or IMAP services, or the Novell GroupWise servers that the Enterprise version of the BlackBerry software supports.

BlackBerry Professional Software costs $499 for up to 5 users and $849 for 10.
