Alltel today introduced the availability of the Samsung Wafer, a super slim candybar handset that measures 8.4mm thick. Available for $49.99 with a two-year contract, the Samsung Wafer also includes an expansion slot for loading multimedia onto the phone and the ability to play back music. Support for stereo Bluetooth headphones is also available, as is a 1.3 megapixel camera. The Samsung Wafer is only available on Alltel, an emerging network that ranks fifth behind the four major U.S. networks. Delivering exclusive and exciting handsets has become a key strategy in attracting customers and the Samsung Wafer offers mid range features at a significantly lower price than you would see from major carriers like Verizon.
The Samsung Wafer resembles the Sprint Upstage in styling, but lacks the Upstage's two-sided design. Samsung has emerged as a leader in offering "thin" handsets across their lineup, from phones like the Wafer all the way up to smart phones like the Samsung Blackjack.
