Call Time (6.0)
We test call time by connecting the phone with Skype on a never-ending call. We play audio through both ends to better simulate a conversation. The Tilt was able to last for an even five hours under these conditions. This is a decent score, but it fell far short of the times advanced phones usually put up, which can exceed 10 hours. Five hours is most likely enough for most users, but don't forget the charger if you are heading out for more than a day or two.
| Cell Phone | Talk Time | Score |
| AT&T Tilt | 5 hours | 6.0 |
| Nokia E90 | 3 hours, 31 minutes | 4.42 |
| BlackBerry Curve 8320 | 7 hours, 24 minutes | 8.88 |
| HTC Mogul | 5 hours, 30 minutes | 6.60 |
| Palm Treo 750 | 3 hours, 58 minutes | 4.76 |
| Apple iPhone | 7 hours, 4 minutes | 8.48 |
Music Playback (4.88)
To test music playback, we simply loop a playlist and see how long it takes before the battery gives out. The Tilt made it to 6 hours and 47 minutes before quitting. This time is actually square in the middle of average. It should be enough to keep you entertained during most transcontinental flights, but if you're going overseas, hope for a power outlet on your seat.
| Cell Phone | Music Playback Time | Score |
| AT&T Tilt | 6 hours, 47 minutes | 4.88 |
| Nokia E90 | 8 hours, 46 minutes | 6.31 |
| BlackBerry Curve 8320 | 12 hours, 2 minutes | 8.66 |
| HTC Mogul | 11 hours, 13 minutes | 8.08 |
| Palm Treo 750 | 15 hours, 23 minutes | 11.08 |
| Apple iPhone | 10 hours, 46 minutes | 7.75 |
Web Browsing (3.66)
Web browsing involves constantly transferring large amounts of data, which is incredibly taxing on battery life. To test this we point the phone to a ring of linked websites that automatically link to each other every 10 seconds. Constantly browsing, the Tilt lasted 3 hours and 3 minutes. Around the two and a half hour mark, however, we noticed the phone would simply stop reloading pages. We had to manually refresh the page, at which point the test proceeded normally. The only other sticking point was when the battery was running very low. The page stopped refreshing for a second time as a warning dialogue popped up, prompting us to save our work and charge the phone.
3 Hours and 3 minutes is a pretty short browsing battery life, but it would be enough for checking the news on your way into work in the morning. However, we wouldn't reccommend that you consider using the Tilt to try and replace a laptop to keep in touch on the road without investing in a couple of spare batteries.
| Cell Phone | Browsing Time | Score |
| AT&T Tilt | 3 hours, 3 minutes | 3.66 |
| Nokia E90 | 10 hours, 34 minutes | 12.68 |
| BlackBerry Curve 8320 | 9 hours, 43 minutes | 11.66 |
| HTC Mogul | 4 hours, 28 minutes | 5.36 |
| Palm Treo 750 | 3 hours, 3 minutes | 3.66 |
| Apple iPhone | 5 hours, 13 minutes | 6.26 |
Idle Time unscored
We don't score idle time, as performing several test trials would take months. The manufacturer claims the phone can last for eight days, and we think this should be an accurate estimate.
