AT&T Launches American Idol Videos and Tones

March 15, 2007 – For American Idol fans that can’t get enough of the reality show, AT&T is now launching Live Idol Videos and Live Idol Tones for their mobile phones. The videos and ring and answer tones will feature the 12 contestants of American Idol to be used with a 3G phone at $19.99 for unlimited video access and $2.49 per ringtone and $1.99 per answer tone.“One of the reasons American Idol continues to be the number one show on television is because it allows fans to be part of the ‘Idol’ experience in a meaningful way,” said AT&T vice president John Burbank in a company press release today.
AT&T’s recent integration for Idol video and tones is part of a wider merge between the Fox reality show and Americans’ interaction via mobile devices to change the outcome of their entertainment. With 29.4 million viewers of the show, according to the release, American Idol stands at the head of the Tuesday TV lineup, while Americans stay connected to the show through their phones. Since the start of the show, viewers can vote on their favorite contestants. With the addition to of the new AT&T service, cell phone users can watch the video clips of the performances and auditions of the contestants.
For each week of the TV season, mobile users/viewers who subscribe to MEdia MAX Bundle can access 2-minute video clips.
AT&T also offers ringtones and answer tones, initially introduced last year. The new service allows users to reserve songs the night of the performance to be activated the following day via text and download.
The AT&T Live Videos and Live Idol Tones are available at http://www.cingular.com/idol for user on 3G phones, including the Cingular SYNC from Samsung or the Samsung Blackjack.
